Lear est une histoire d’identité, donc de théâtre-monde et d’humanité profonde. C’est la plus réelle part de la condition humaine mise en dérision par la lucidité du personnage du Fou qui pour sa fidélité à Lear finira pendu. L’histoire se passant dans un monde ni chrétien ni païen, mais où toutes les croyances empiriques ne font cas ni de la morale ni de l’éthique, encore moins du bon sens, met le monde sous le règne de l’hystérie, de la folie et du sang. Espièglerie, calomnie et félonie sont encore de piètres théâtralités à côté du marasme déroutant que draine ce monde. Un monde qui par mégarde n’a pas vieilli, il demeure toujours en quête de sa maturité, en route, espérons-le, vers son humanité.
